The idea of cherishing the old and upholding the inmost mind underlies the allure of Briana Erin Jewelry, a poetic and quixotic jewelry brand by designer and Los Angeles native, Briana Erin. Briana’s passion and execution of design began at a very young age with intricate drawings belying the age of a much older artist, and continued through her studies at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2004. Just prior to graduation, Briana began to conceptualize and then design a very well-received fashion jewelry line, and most recently in 2006 she launched her first fine jewelry collection for Briana Erin Jewelry called “Poetic Artifacts.”
“Poetic Artifacts” is a collection partially inspired by Briana’s passion for archaeological and antique findings. The “After Life” studs, with black diamond eyes, resemble the skull of the most famous human ancestor, “Lucy” (named after the Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”). The white diamond studded “Viking Ship” pendant on a vintage sterling silver bar chain, favors the ancient ocean vessel. Ruby and diamond-set Celtic cross pendant-necklaces, aptly named “Relic,” appear to date back to 7th-century Ireland.” “Rocaille Cuff,” a heavy, oxidized sterling silver piece, recalls the French Rococo-period.
Inspiration for this collection also stems from Briana’s personal dreamscape, comprising familiar imagery and symbols from her inmost mind. Such related designs include: the artfully spun “Web of Prey” 18K gold and diamond accented earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and ring; the “Fleur-de-lis” 3-tiered necklace (an iconographic attribute of the archangel Gabriel); and the “Heaven’s Door” necklace with diamond accents, featuring an 18K gold Maltese cross and sterling silver “knocker” ring. Briana comments that hope and optimism can spring from pain and destruction with her “Twist of Faith” barbed-wire designs in vintage sterling silver and 18K gold. “I think of ‘Poetic Artifacts’ as a little treasured sentiment where each piece is infused with an element of poetry which will have more longevity as compared to a fleeting trend,” explains Briana.
